Living in Valencia, Spain has exposed me to great music from other cultures. I’m currently studying Spanish music and culture at Berklee. Here’s a recording of me playing Mantreria, a flamenco-jazz fusion composition by Chano Dominguez, Spanish pianist/composer.
I’ll be rehearsing, recording and playing in Syrian Artist Rebal Alkhodari’s band over the coming weeks. We had a uniquely fun collaboration at the Fundacion Bancaja concert a couple of weeks ago, that I’m eager to continue. I’m currently in my 4th semester at Berklee, after completing 49 credits in semester 1. I’m taking 12 classes this term, looking forward to getting deeper into improvisation with Kenny Werner, and taking production, groove writing and arranging classes, among others. She’s considered one of the top jazz pianists in the world, has composed hundreds of tunes, and has played with many jazz greats. She’s 78 years old, a professor at Berklee College of Music.

Another gig today at the Indianapolis Artsgarden Dome in the Center Mall. Playing a beautiful Steinway. This has been the most amazing experience of my life, so far. Playing for 2,000 people. All-State Musician plaque
At the All State Band concert we got scouted by someone playing with Kenny Garrett tonight at Nova Southeastern University. So, now we’re jamming with them at NSU. Kenny Garrett is a well-known alto saxophonist. Jamming outside were me, Sebastian Rios, Tyson Jackson, Ben Stocker, Anthony Hervey, Adesh Balraj, plus some other cats.
Yesterday evening I performed in the Florida All-State Jazz Band at the Tampa Convention Center. Afterward two guys ran up to me and asked me for my autograph, saying that they knew I was going to be famous. My first autographs! I gotta say it felt great. Performed at the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival. It was an okay experience. Made top combo and top big band. Met some new friends, one of whom with which I shared a really good connection. Cool.

I received a grant from the Gold Coast Jazz Society for expenses related to going to jazz camps this summer. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!! This summer I’m going to Michigan, California and Washington State for various jazz camps and to perform at festivals.

At the House of Swing. Jazz at Lincoln Center. We gave it our all. Essentially Ellington Competition 2013. We didn’t place this year. The super bands came on strong. Looking forward to next year’s competition. We did win Honorable Mention, which is basically 4th place and got $750.

Great experience at the Broward All County Honor Band tonight! The renowned trumpeter Melton Mustafa ran up to me after and said, “I love your piano playing!” Awesome! As performers we need those mirrors to keep us going, right? Thank you!

Sorry I’ve been inactive. I’ve been out of state. Just came back from the Litchfield Jazz Camp and Festival. When my mom came up to come pick me up, she said she was staying at a crappy old moldy bed and breakfast inn so we drove to NYC for the day. Here I am with Ira Sullivan at a MOCA Friday Night Jazz performance. Ira suggested I make a blues album and title it “Blues from Holm.” I may just do that.
